Mads Gilbert is a Norwegian doctor. He is well-spoken, capable of sounding passionate while maintaining a reasonable and objective tone. He has an accent, but it's slight, and it's one of those respectable European accents. He is white. And he is working at Al-Shifa, the largest hospital and Gaza. And CBS put him on the news twice.

Edit: Dr. Gilbert also got on CNN. Erik Fosse is another Norwegian doctor, who also got covered by CNN online, but I'm not sure if he's gotten on the all-important idiot box. 2nd Edit: I just noticed that the white doctor guy in that first CNN link is identified as Dr. Fosse, but he sure looks like Dr. Gilbert. And BBC.

Norwegian Doctor in Gaza - Unbiased?
Hi Liz,
He clearly has strong opinions on the situation in the Middle East. He probably wouldn't have gone to Gaza otherwise. I also know he's been a controversial public figure in Norway.
But I'm not sure what you mean by "shill". Do you just mean that he is "biased"? Well, I never claimed otherwise. I actually don't think that there is any such thing as an "unbiased" source of information in Gaza right now. Perhaps it would be nice if there were some reputable journalists in there, but Israel has prevented international journalists from entering Gaza, which violates a decision from Israel's own supreme court. (Why in the world did they do that, I wonder?)
Shill? He's in the middle of a massacre of children and has the pictures to prove it.
He is a person who "lives" of situations like this. He also said that the 9/11 was OK!

It doesn't require strong opinions on the nature of the conflict to go to a conflict area to work. In certain circumstances, it may get in the way. Even if you do have them, making them known and public is more often counterproductive than not.
As for Mads Gilbert, I respect his skills and his passion, but I disagree with him almost entirely on his approach and methods.
But then again, I work for Medecins Sans Frontieres and we're one of the organizations he has a problem with due to our neutrality stance.

I was terribly happy that Dr. Gilbert was there to be in those TV segments. I don't know all that much about his career in general, so no comment there.
As for the rest, you're right, I stand corrected. I heart MSF, too.
